Lefkada fourth largest island of the Ionian Islands South of Corfu north af Kefalonia It is the most mountaineous
1158mtrs 28% is flatland. surrounded by 7 small islands 117km coastline with many lonley beaches with crystal clear water there tourist expansion has not yet polluted the waters.
Struck by earthshakes many times has created a typical architecture with corrugated covers and low houses
in the town lefkas still keeping its attraction. The nature flowers piece birds makes the island a favorite among
nature lovers.  Still many restaurants disco's and pubs provides enough exitement for those liking this.
Compared to Corfu it is not as tourist developed creating a more natural greek lifestyle here.

 The capital of the island Lefkada or Hora, has a well organized summer business life. In August, when the well known "Speech and Art Festival" takes place there, life becomes more cosmopolitan and crowded. There are hotels, but also rooms can be rented. Some sights of the town : the Venetian Fort, built in 1300, the Public Library where the Museum of Post-Byzantine Art is housed, the Museum of Popular Art, the Historic Archives, many churches with interesting iconostases and icons painted by painters from the seven Ionian Islands,

Famous red wine is produced on the island, as well beekeeping, honey from lefkas is well knowned..
Three km SW of the town, is the famous Monastery of Faneromeni with an excellent view. One km NE of the town, at Kalligoni, one finds ruins of Nirikos, ancient capital of the island.  The road network of the island is good. Touring the countryside of Lefkada on a rented bike is a lifetime experience, maybe not as many turns as on Corfu

Liga (4.2km from the town). It is a settlement with a wonderful sea and fresh fish wildlife.
Nikiana (9.1 km) It is a seaside settlement.  There are restaurants and rooms are rented there as elsewhere
Periyali (15 km). It is a small settlement, a little way before one reaches Nidri. At the place Passa, near this settlement, one can enjoy the sea and cool water of spring with the same name.
 Nidri (17 km). It is a seaside village with an organized tourist substructure. Here Wilhelm Dörpfeld, made excavations, looking for Homers' Ithaca. His bust is here, and opposite, at Agia Kiriaki, next to the waves, is his grave. From Nidri, one can go across to the islands of Scorpios, Madouri, Meganissi etc., with a small motorboat. Rooms are rented here, and there are hotels and many restaurants.
Micros Yalos (31 km) It is a bay and a place below Poros , a golden beach, camping sites, restaurants etc.
Sivota (33 km) It is a fishing village at the bay with the same name. According to Dörpfeld, it was here that Odysseus came ashore after his fifteen year adventure at sea.
Vassiliki (38 km) The Centre for Vindsurfing  It is a picturesque village south of the island with a nice harbor, hotels, restaurants and a very clear sea for swimming. Using a small motorboat, one can go to Lefkata; it is the legendary cape of Lefkada where, according to tradition, Sapfo committed suicide because of love. Apollo of Lefkata was worshipped here in antiquity.
Sivros (32 km) It is a village five km, to the right of the circular road (towards Vassiliki). It has plenty of water and a lush vegetation. There is a small hotel and rooms are rented here.
Agios Petros (36 km) It is the second village in size on the island, located on the circular road. It is also a rich village. One can easily go down from here to Ponti or Vassiliki, for swimming. Rooms for renting can be found.
Karia (14 km). This is the largest village of Lefkada at the northern part of the island. It has much water and a wonderful square, shaded by large plane trees. The excellent and greatly prized “corsanic” embroidery, is made here. Agios Nikitas (12 km) It is a picturesque fishing village on the western side of the island. Its beach is the best in the island. Other villages that  are, Sfakiotes with the famous “Fria” well, Drimonas, Exanthia, Hortata, Athani
Mikros Yalos (31 kms) It is a bay and a place below Poros (a picturesque village with courteous people), a golden beach, camping sites, restaurants etc.
ld not forget to go across, to the nearby island of Meganissi (ancient name, Tafos), that is part of Lefkada administratively. One can go there -- it is a very short trip -- from Nidri by small motorboat or even from the town of Lefkada. Meganissi is a wonderful place, with its three villages of Vathi, Spartohori and Katomeri, its warm and hospitable people and its many sea caves. It is an ideal place for fishing, and the tourist can spend a quiet vacation here, in the midst of a surroundings with indescribable natural beauty. Rooms are rented here, and one can find plenty of services.

The islands Kalamos  and Kastos NW of the island near the Akarnania seashores, with which Lefkada is connected by regular means of transportation.

Kalamos has an area of 24 sq. km. It is a mountainous island with high peaks as Vouni (761m), Kalamida (785m) and Xilokastro (650m). It is also a fertile island, its main production being olive oil, wine, grain and stock products.
Kastos is a smoothly formed and calm island NW of Kalamos and has an area of 7 sq., km. with a highest altitude of 150m. Both islands are known from the 1821 revolution as a shelter for the families of the fighters as they were hunted by the Turks.

Picturesque little villages stick up from the enchnting mountainous landscapes with their lush vegetation, fertile slopes and dark green plateaus. Golden shores and lofty cliffs are typical sites for traditional settlements. The villages of Sfakioton (Spanochori, Lazarata, Asproyerakata) lie near the center of the island in a unique view from Chortata to the west and south as the landscape gradually descends to Cape Lefkata. Englouvi, the most mountainous village on the island, is at an altitude of 700 m., Karya, one of the main mountain villages is in the center of the island on a lovely plateau and is well-known for its embroideries. It contains elements of traditional architecture and has remained faithful to the old customs of the area.
